St James Town Youth Council

sjtyccouncil

The St. James Town Youth Council is a group of approximately 25 high school students who meet on a monthly basis to plan opportunities for bettering their community. YSM supports the Council by offering administrative support through an adult advisor and also by granting them an annual budget which they oversee and use as they see fit to accomplish their mandate.

Some of their most memorable events have included the annual Youth Talent Show “Urban Flair”, the March Break “Camp Reality” and hosting two Jane’s Walks. Their plans for the 2010/2011 year include intentionally focusing on building relationships with the seniors in the community and refurbishing the local tennis court.

The St. James Town Youth Council exists to connect, inspire and empower local youth to realize their full potential both personally and in their community. We achieve this by:

  • hosting and supporting local events
  • advocating for community growth
  • exploring initiatives & developing skills
  • providing unique learning opportunities

Refresh 2012 is an exciting event of Ephraim’s Place Community Centre in partnership with Toronto Community Housing Corporation, the City of Toronto, Yonge Street Mission, Youth Unlimited, and various local businesses. Volunteers will work together with residents of the community to do basic maintenance and paint the inside of each participating unit.

• Volunteers may chose what site they would like to paint at.
• Volunteers will go out in groups of 6-8 people.
• Work is scheduled every day from 9:00am to 5:00pm (or until the work scheduled for that day is completed).
• Lunch will be provided each work day by the host residents.
• Volunteers can sign up to paint as many days as they like. They don’t have to paint every day.

Please download the Volunteer Registration Form – YSM for more details.
